Imagined memories of a vintage Scandinavian summer: never-ending daylight, the perfume of blooms filling the clearest of skies, vistas of sun-filled wildflower meadows in unspoilt landscapes, wearing flowers in your hair…
‘midsommar’ is a celebration of nature that embodies joy, light, and a carefree spirit.
It’s always a special moment when a fabric collection is revealed, I imagine that it’s something similar to how a bird might feel when being let out from its cage.
It was fun seeing the excitement build when Figo started posting sneak peeks online and so wonderful to be able to share all of the designs now that they are no longer under wraps…
If you weren’t one of the lucky people who were able to attend Quilt Market in Kansas City you can find photos of the gorgeous FIGO booth on Instagram, as well as blog posts from the show such as this one by Quilting Mod.
I’m often asked what the story or inspiration is behind a collection; sometimes it’s very personal, and other times (such as for midsommar) it’s a daydream where I let my imagination wander and play.
I’ve always loved vintage and Scandinavian design and I wanted to make my own interpretation infused with a fresh, contemporary feel. I had so much fun developing these designs and I think that shines through!
For all of you talented dressmakers out there, 2 colour-ways of Retro Tulip and 2 colour-ways of Windmill Flower will also be available in rayon.
And, to make quilters’ lives even easier, both colour-ways of this collection will be available to purchase as pre-cuts (either 10” x 10” squares or 40” x 2.5” strips). How brilliant is that?
I highly recommend taking a look at the stunning lookbook that FIGO created for their latest releases. There are some really beautiful new collections by some talented designers, and lots of inspiring projects using the fabrics. I’m bursting with ideas for what I’ll be making when the collection is available!
I’d love to see what you make with the fabrics so don’t forget to tag your photos #midsommarfabric
And lastly a big thank you FIGO for making this daydream reality!
