what a whirlwind New York was! It's hard to believe that this time one month ago I was boarding a plane to take me to the BluePrint Show. So much has happened since then, but the months and months of preparation were definitely worth it. I'll write more about the show in another post, but for now I wanted to share some of my favourite moments in New York before they become a distant memory...

early Spring pops of colour
we made the most of our jet lag and were up walking the highline by 8am on our first morning (after having enjoyed our first American diner breakfast experience!). It was the one attraction that everyone told me I had to see when I was there, and it really is a special place
an interesting mix of concrete lines intermixed with softer planting
with all the noise and chaotic energy of Manhattan, you can understand why New Yorkers enjoy taking a stroll along the former train line tracks surrounded by a gorgeously planted array of trees, shrubs and flowers
beautiful planting under the trees
every now and then the vista opened up to let the viewer enjoy a fabulous view of the city

an iconic New York skyline viewed from the highline
by the end of the week I'd walked the highline 5 times - it was a great way to get from the Metropolitan Pavillion to the Javits Center without having to wait at the pedestrian crossings on every block, and even in those few days a lot of the buds had turned into blossoms
I would love to be able to go back and visit at another time of year to see how the planting changes the spaces. As someone who has studied garden design and horticulture I could really appreciate the vision and skill that went into this project. Needless to say I gained lots of inspiration for some new designs here, and I can't wait to set aside some time to develop them!
