last month was a month of experimenting and new challenges, and which I hope to continue over the summer. The design above was in response to a brief from Printed Village to design a scarf around the theme of elephants
I did some research online and loved the images of the painted elephants from the festival they hold in Jaipur every year, and I took my inspiration for the motifs from there. Drawing animals is something new to me, so it was nice to start out with the elephant as I think he is relatively easy to give some character to. I am definitely going to push myself further into the animal kingdom after this experience
the colour palette is also inspired by India, and the first time I have used reds and pinks together in a design. I love the warmth and exoticism that their juxtaposition creates. Conscious that the end use of this design was for fashion, I also decided to recolour the pattern in a more "wearer friendly" palette which you can see below:
I'd love to know which is your favourite. I can imagine the red version working well as a rug also
